RinG-Pen

Ring Pen won a lot of awards, is recommended by numerous World Health Care Organizations and helps to write for a lot of people all over the World. This pen is designed to provide a writing utensil which requires no or very minimal gripping force. Most pens attempt to accommodate individuals who have difficulty maintaining sufficient gripping force by increasing the gripping surface. The result is a bulky pen with a fat barrel which does not provide a smooth, clean and accurate writing action. The No Grip Ring-Pen redesigns the conventional cylindrical pen, eliminating the need for any gripping force, and allows the user to write in a more neutral, natural comfortable hand posture. This removes the causes of fatigue, strain, cramping and pain from writing. Children just learning writing techniques, university students who have to take huge volumes of notes in lectures, people suffering from arthritis or other conditions affecting the hand, everyone who writes regularly – all will

Happiness Is Diversity

Low carb is not the right diet for everyone. Bungee-jumping is not the sport for everyone. Condo living is not a comfortable living arrangement for everyone. And there is no set blueprint for your life either.
You have needs, wants, dreams, and a history that make your life different than anyone else’s. Life is about diversity.
Formal Victorian style is not at all the right approach to a home for me with large dogs and foster kittens; but my streamlined casual style works well. My friend on the other hand would never be happy in a home with all tile floors, it’s just not sophisticated enough for her. “I need carpet and fancy drapes, and live plants”, she laughs.
And I would look silly in super-low-cut jeans; but then my 20 year old niece would not welcome the tailored suits I often wear, either.
My message is simple -- Happiness lies in that sacred place where you create the diversity that makes your life yours. Happiness lies where self acceptance and self improvement meet. Not just your decorating style, or your choice of jeans --but your ideals, your passions, what makes you smile.
In order for happiness to live with you, your life must reflect what makes sense to you. What you love, what you care about, what you treasure, what you find interesting and important.
When I first moved to Arizona over 15 years ago now, I had been working with my husband running jobsites for a large construction company. I wanted to do something else when we made the move, but he asked me to stay, and I agreed. It was, after all, what we had been doing all along. Who was I to rock the boat?
I stayed for 2 years, and I did a decent job; but I also was very stressed, and added to his stress, because I was unhappy with my choice. I went to work barely on time, I took every second of my lunch hour, left as early as I could get away with. My heart wasn’t in it.
After the 2 years, I was able to go back to school and start my Coaching Business. Originally, I put in 50 hours a week, never got tired, bored, wanted to quit. Years later, I still don’t get tired. Ok, that’s not true, but I don’t get sick-and-tired, if you know what I mean.
I wouldn’t make it as a rock star. I could never be a chef, or a surgeon. But Life Coaching I love. I found happiness in the variety of life that fits me. You can too!
But even with the beauty of diversity, there are of course some basics. Just like in decorating, or fashion style, living a great life involves knowing some basic skills and putting in some foundation pieces. A great paint job won’t help a wall that cracked and peeling!
Start with the basics, and then from there, it becomes a creative effort that reflects your own personality, your own interests, your own message to the world.
1. Screen out things that aren’t important to you.
2. Put your effort in the right places.
3. Clearly define your priorities.
4. Build reserves into your life.
5. Identify and eliminate energy zappers.
6. Manage your self-talk.
7. Eliminate overwhelm through daily action.
Every day that you work hard on being optimistic and strengthening things that are meaningful and important to you, there is less room for unhappiness or self pity. Happiness is being YOU, the very best “you” that you can be.

The Art of Printing Promotional Products

Welcome to the lucrative world of PromotionalProducts! This industry has grown by leaps and bounds, supplying. There is no doubt about the effectiveness of giveaways as tools for brand recall.

Look around and you will find several giveaways such as advertising ball pens, cups, bags and drinkware featuring a brand logo. This article will take you behind the scenes to explore the different printing processes involved in getting quality logos on promotional items:

Screen Printing: The Song Dynasty in China first introduced this printing more than thousand years ago. Over the years, several enhancements have been made to make the process more efficient. Among the more popular printing processes, Screen Printing uses a framed mesh along with an ink-blocking stencil to create the desired image. Even though this process is commonly used to personalize clothing, they can be used on a variety of other materials such as plastic and glass as well.

Pad Printing: This process transfers ink to a surface by using a metal plate. This plate has a film that creates the printable image on exposure to UV light. The plate is then stamped on a bulk of promotional products to provide accurate and timely printing. Pad printing can be used on a variety of surfaces such as glass, plastic, ceramic, wood and glass.

Hot Foil Printing: This process uses a metallic plate with letters to hot stamp the desired artwork on a product. This dry and ink free process works perfectly on plastic, wood, leather and paper.

Heat Transfer Printing: This process uses intense heat to imprint the logo on material. When you want to imprint full color images on garments, then heat transfer is the printing method you should go for. This process is used on ball pens and T-shirts

Laser Engraving: This process is simple and clean. The logos are loaded into a laser engraving system and then imprinted on products such as metallic pens, awards, jewelry and crystal ware.

Embossing/Debossing: This process gives your logo a trendy and 3-dimensional look. Dies are created from metal in your logo's shape. Your product is placed between the dies; heat and pressure is then applied to create the desired image you want. This process is used on chocolate packs and leather-based items.

Embroidery: This process makes your logo looks great on clothing with stitching. Items such as caps, blankets, shirts and pants will look great with your logo once the embroidery work is complete.

Digital Printing: This process is also known as CMYK and offers full-color printing. A notch above Screen Printing, this form of printing uses actual printing rather than screens. Digital printing is used on magnets, notebooks and mouse pads.

Mastering the Art of Pen Spinning

You may be an ace with a Rubik’s cube, or even a yo-yo champion, but have you mastered that other geek hobby? You know, pen spinning? While most of us probably do it unconsciously while deep in thought, the art of twirling a pen like a baton between your fingers is an emerging sport amongst young people in world.

In response to the pen-twirling boom, a new pen made specifically for spinning is scheduled to hit stores in late February. The Pen’z Gear pen is longer and heavier than a normal pen (15 grams and 19cm long), and also has an adjustable weight feature to make it easier to manipulate..It is five times as much as a regular pen.

According to the article, pen spinning has been popular since the late 1970s, with similar movements in China and the United States.

The Internet played a key role in launching the inaugural pen-spinning world tournament last February, and video footage from such events triggered an online boom.

The Internet community was inspired by mind-boggling twirls such as the ThumbAround — maneuvering a pen to rotate around one’s thumb — and the FingerPass — which involves twirling a pen through the four fingers of one’s hand.”

One captivated spectator (and fellow spinner) was Masaki Tsukuda, who gathered other online pen-spinning celebs to form the Pen Spinner Association last July. The group already has 800 members and plans to hold an inaugural national competition in March.

So Hot!! Ladies and Gentleman Let's swimming now!

World's Largest Swimming Pool

f you like doing laps in the swimming pool, you might want to stock up on the energy drinks before diving in to this one.
It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, has a 115-foot deep end, and holds 66 million gallons of water.
The Guinness Book of Records has named the vast pool beside the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world.
But if you fancy splashing out on one of your own -- and you have the space to accommodate it -- then beware: this one took five years to build, cost nearly 1 billion, and the annual maintenance bill will be 2 million.
The man-made saltwater lagoon has been attracting huge crowds to the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile 's southern coast, since it opened last month.
Its turquoise waters are so crystal clear that you can see the bottom even in the deep end.
It dwarfs the world's second biggest pool, the Orthlieb  --  nicknamed the Big Splash --  in Morocco , which is a mere 150 yards long and 100 yards wide. An Olympic size pool measures some 50 yards by 25 yards.
Chile's monster pool uses a computer-controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other.
The sun warms the water to 26c, nine degrees warmer than the adjoining sea.
Chilean biochemist Fernando Fischmann, whose Crystal Lagoons Corporation designed the pool, said advanced engineering meant his company could build "an impressive artificial paradise" even in inhospitable areas. It uses hardly any chemicals.
"As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean."
Capt. Ben and his brother, Rod, used to build pools together all around the San Fernando Valley in California (Garrett Bros. Pools) . Rod continued and became one the foremost Custom Pool builders of Northern California. His designs have appeared in Home Magazine, Sunset Gardens and many other "do-it your selfer" type pool and garden publications.

Design a Business Card That Won’t Get Thrown Away

It’s an almost unavoidable part of doing business – the business card. While more people are beginning to ditch traditional paper cards for digital counterparts, the business card is still an integral part of doing business. Cards are almost as commonplace as the handshake.

So what makes your card stand out from the pack? How can you design a card that won’t get thrown away minutes after the meeting? Let’s delve into some suggestions and tips today.

Make It Different
printgrain
Sometimes the key to standing out can be having something different. With all of the business card options out there, it’s difficult to decide what will work best for you. So, what route to take?

First, it depends on your business. The card should match the feel of the company – and often, a traditional card shape (3.5 by 2 inches) does work best. Why? Because it fits easily in a pocket or wallet; oversized cards do not, and sometimes smaller cards can get lost.

But for the others, there are some fun design options, including using different shapes for cards. My favorite is the half-size card. The mini card is great if you want to really stress a key point, such as a web address. Design these tiny cards with simplicity in mind – showcase your work on one side and include contact info on the other.

Drench your business card in your personal style and design approach. It should immediately let someone know how you work as a designer.

Make It Fun & Trendy
beasty-design
Another trend in business card design is to include a gimmick. Turn your card into a sticker or magnet – real estate agents have used this trick for years – or consider a game or web elements.

Another popular tool right now is to design a card that looks like a popular website, such as Facebook or the iPhone model above. Be cautious with gimmicks though, because they can fall out of fashion pretty quickly. Don’t go ordering a thousand cards!

Think about ways to add interactivity to the traditional paper card. Use a QR code or custom URL. Tell people why the links are worth visiting right on the card: “For a full resume, visit” or “Scan the QR to view my portfolio.”

Remember that many potential clients may never meet you in person first. Make sure your “card” includes a digital version – especially if you are in a web-related design field. (You can read more about digital business cards in a previous Design Shack article.) Check out free digital business card sites such as about.me or flavors.me. Apps that digitize cards – Bump, CardMunch, Shoeboxed and CardFlick — are also gaining popularity, making it even more important to think about scan-ability in the design process.

Think Minimal Design, Strong Text
papirus
Speaking of making a card easy to scan digitally, a minimalistic design scheme can really help.

Lots of negative space – but it does not have to be white – and simple type can go a long way. The KISS (keep it simple, stupid) design philosophy is often one of the best when it comes to small spaces. Use this when designing a business card – it is the ultimate printed small space.
The most important aspect is the words. Make sure everything is clearly readable. Dark text on a light background is a time-tested business card option for the simple reason that it is easy to read. Light text on a dark background can also be easy to read and striking but make sure to invest in a good-quality print so every work is crystal clear.

Font size in important. Generally text on a business card is between 8 and 15 points, with your name (or company name) as the largest element on the card and contact information that is slightly smaller. Try to avoid text is that below 8 points and opt for even larger text if using a novelty or condensed typeface. The key is for the card to be readable.

Include Key Information
lima
There are some elements every business card just needs to include: Your name and contact information, and company information and logo for corporate cards.

For freelance or contract designers, take that a step further and make sure the card says what you do. This is especially important if you do not have a company name or other identifying information.

Some will make the argument that a super-cool card with just a URL will be attention-grabbing enough to make people visit your site. Don’t bank on it. While having a few of these cards in your arsenal may be ok, it is imperative to have an identifying card for potential clients. The whole point of a business card is so that your contact can reach you. Make it easy for them.

Use Color and Images

Color and images are an important part of any design scheme and can play an equally important role in business card design. One of the best and simplest ways to get your work out there is to show it off and you can use your business cards to do just that.

Two-sided printing can be a great way to combine both images and simplicity. Use one side of the card to show off your work (and consider multiple card images as well) and the other side as a point-of-contact. By using a pop of bright color or a great photo, your card will stand out in a stack of beige and black cards, and it says something extra about your work.

Go For Top Notch Printing
Martinsson-letterpress
Nothing is quite like the feel of a high-stock business card. They don’t crumple and fold like flimsier counterparts and they make a nice first impression. Using a good stock can send the message that you care about quality.

Consider your options when it comes to printing versus copying as well. Printed cards include some textured ink – you can feel raised letters, for example — while copying is an even lay of ink on the card. Printing has a feel to it, with raised lettering and colors, and the ability to switch between finishes. Copying is more of a flat option and is typically only a fraction of the cost. Printing is a great option when simplicity is key – a run of cards that are all the same. Copying is a great option for a large number of cards that are different – say you are using multiple photos or color schemes.

Letterpress takes print-quality to another level entirely. These cards feature sunken type on a high-stock, and often textured, paper. The technique – which involves pressing inked letters or artwork into a thick, soft paper – dates centuries and has an elegant look and feel. But letterpress isn’t for everyone. They can be expensive and color options are limited; they can also be difficult to use as two-sided cards.
Conclusion

The most important part of your business card is that it represents you and your work.

As a designer, a poorly designed card can give potential clients the wrong impression of your work. Use images, text and graphics that really showcase what you and your design portfolio is all about. What is your design style? Minimalistic, colorful, lively, modern, classic? That’s a good starting place for your cards.

But remember when designing a card why you have it in the first place – to make connections and further your business. Make sure your card is easy to read and connects to your work online, through a URL or QR code. And make it part of your brand identity – your card, and your work should be clearly identifiable when a potential client tries to find you.

Great Gadgets and Gifts for Summer Holiday

The holidays are quickly approaching, which means it’s almost time for the annual awkward tradition of giving and getting gifts. Whether you’re shopping for a designer or you are a designer working on your wish list, these fifteen gadgets and gifts are so awesome that you won’t want anything else.
Chopsticks, pens, gloves, these all sound like every day boring items but wait until you see the amazing high tech versions we found!

Cintiq 12WX Pen Display
Let’s start this list out right by being honest about what designers really want: a multitouch drawing tablet. Wacom has a whole line of these bad boys with prices ranging all the way up to $2,600, but why not be a little more conservative and go for the small but beautiful 12WX? You’ll never work with Photoshop the same way again.
screenshot
Inkling
Though roughly 1/5th of the price of the previous gadget, this one is arguably even cooler! In fact, the Inkling is definitely at the top of my personal wish list. Instead of relying on a touchscreen tablet, the Inkling lets you sketch the way you’re used to sketching: on paper. The images are recorded and transferred to digital files compatible with Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. You even have complete layer control while you sketch! This is one seriously awesome gadget and $200 isn’t a half bad price point.
screenshot

Dry Erase Whiteboard Paint
Who needs fancy high tech drawing solutions when you can just draw on your wall! You’ve seen chalkboard paint but this goes one step better by creating an easily erasable whiteboard surface. Skip the chalk dust and turn your entire office into a blank canvas for ideas, todo lists, mockups and more.
screenshot
Looking for a cool gift under $5? This pen doubles as a functioning caliper! Designers and artist will go far beyond simply recording measurements and find this to be an immensely helpful tool for getting proportions just right in a sketch. At the very lest, they’ll think it looks cooler than any other pen they already own.

Website Stencil Kit
The website stencil kit is an awesome little tool that makes UI wireframing a breeze. Lots of web designers like to hash out their ideas on paper first and this speeds along the process by helping you quickly create tabs, icons, sliders and other standard UI elements.
screenshot
Walls Notebook
This gift is super quirky and super awesome. It’s a book of photos containing walls in New York City that provide a blank canvas for some grunge-filled graffiti inspired creativity. This is perfect for getting your brain into a creative mode for outside the box thinking.
The iPhone SLR Mount
This one is crazy, but in a super awesome kind of way. Your iPhone already takes great pictures, but what if you could transform it into a multitouch SLR? With this unbelievable but very real product, you can do just that. It’s basically a Canon or Nikon lens mount attached to an iPhone case. You’ll love taking Instagram photos at f/2.8!

Most of the items on this list are products that I would love to own, with two exceptions: this and the Colca Sac below. Both of these are already owned and adored by yours truly.
I’m a complete Paper.app addict and have tried lots of iPad styluses. This market is full of crap, don’t waste your money on anything but the Bamboo. The rubber tip beats the heck out of the foam mess you get from Pogo and is far superior than the cheaper rubber alternatives. If you’re serious about iPad drawing, get a Bamboo and call it a day.

Virtual Keyboard
Will this thing really work? I honestly have no idea, but who wouldn’t want to give it a shot? Pull this sucker out at the coffee shop and you’re bound to stir up some envious looks.
screenshot

Grid-It Organizer
If you want to go for utility over fashion, the Cocoon Grid-It is an awesome laptop sleeve that is ingeniously constructed to hold all of your small gadgets, chargers and various other items. I can definitely see myself putting this to good use on photo shoots.

What’s On Your List?

Now that you’ve seen our collection of fifteen gadgets and gifts for designers, leave a comment below and tell us which is your favorite!

Also, if you see any other cool gadgets online that designers might enjoy, toss a link and brief description into your comment so we can check it out!
